Body Balance Massage

In April 2011, Kelly became certified in an upcoming technique hidden away on the island of Kauai called Body Balance Massage for Scoliosis Therapy. Its gentle approach corrects postural imbalance, decreases/eliminates all types of pain. Other benefits include balanced emotional state, better digestion, and increased immune function. By addressing the myofacial meridians and nervous system long lasting change is achieved.

Postural imbalances due to over use, occupation or injury can lead to many symptoms such as; shoulder, neck or back pain, migraines, bulging disks, disc degeneration, knee pain, range of motion loss, restless leg syndrome, depression, constipation or acid reflux syndrome.

In body balance, scoliosis is a wide and broad term used to describe any imbalance in the spine. Many of the symptoms listed above begin with a patient having a leg length discrepancy. Through a form of deep tissue manipulation the connective tissue is released and reshaped, allowing the body to become re-aligned and more efficient. The design of the body calls for balance within the myofascial system. Our therapists will manipulate the connective tissue as a means to create structural change in the body, personalizing the length and expansion in the body’s structure. Lengthening through the soft tissues allows the body to repair itself, returning to its natural, healthy, pain- free state.

Combining deep tissue, myofascial release and neuromuscular therapy body balance massage can change your quality of life.

We believe so strongly in the body balance method that we have named our business after it. If you believe the body balance series is what you need then please call our office to schedule.

Swedish Massage

The term "Swedish Massage" refers to a variety of techniques specifically designed to relax muscles by applying pressure to them against deeper muscles and bones, and rubbing in the same direction as the flow of blood returning to the heart. It involves the use of kneading, stroking, friction, tapping, and vibration and may provide relief from stiffness, numbness, pain, constipation, and other health problems. The main purpose of Swedish massage is to increase the oxygen flow in the blood and release toxins from the muscles. Other possible benefits include stimulation of circulation, an increase in muscle tone, and a balance of the musculo-skeletal systems. Swedish massage shortens recovery time from muscular strain by flushing the tissues of lactic acid, uric acid, and other metabolic wastes. It increases circulation without increasing heart load.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage is a type of massage aimed at the deeper tissue structures of the muscle and fascia, also called connective tissue. Deep tissue massage uses many of the same movements and techniques as Swedish massage, but the pressure will generally be more intense. It is also a more focused type of massage, as the therapist works to release chronic muscle tension or knots (also known as "adhesion's.")
It's important to drink a lot of water after a deep tissue massage to help flush lactic acid out of the tissues. If you don't, you might be sore the next day. It's possible that you might feel some soreness the day after a deep tissue massage even if you DO drink water. This just means a lot of waste products were flushed out of the tissues. It should pass within a day or so.

Hot Stone Massage

Typically, hot stone massage is done in conjunction with traditional massage techniques, such as Swedish massage, and the stones may be used with applied pressure by the massage therapist during the treatment. Often, stones also are placed--and left for a period of time--on certain body parts such as the spine, hands or belly, and replaced once they cool. Cool stones may also be used to address muscle injury.

A heated stone massage is a preferred treatment for those looking to relax and relieve stress. However, it also may be beneficial to those who experience muscle tension or have had a muscle-related injury. It’s also thought to improve energy flow and circulation through the body, relieve pain and release toxins. Other potential benefits include improved mood and relief from symptoms of arthritis and anxiety.

Medical or Treatment Massage

Medical/Treatment massage can bring incredible relief from many post traumas (whiplash etc. or overuse/repetitive use injury symptoms (tension, headaches, limited movement, swelling etc.) and enable an injured person to manage pain without the use of drugs. It can also speed up the recovery time and decrease the risk of re-injury while allowing the body to heal properly and move forward in life.

In both medical and treatment massage the therapist may use a variety of modalities but will focus the treatment on the area(s) related to the diagnosis and prescription. In the case of treatment massage, focus will be the area of injury, pain or complaint.

Pregnancy Massage

More and more women are realizing the importance of prenatal massage! A massage when pregnant can reduce swelling of joints; improve circulation, also helps sciatica or carpal tunnel symptoms induced by pregnancy. It will also improve your sleep, improve the pliability of skin and underlying tissue and decrease over all pain and tension on the body.
Research also shows that prenatal massage lowers stress hormones, which are a major cause of pregnancy complications. Please call with any questions!

Table Thai

Thai Massage, also known as Thai Yoga was developed over 2000 years ago in India, used to treat the mind, body, and spirit and known to relieve and manage issues such as chronic pain, joint pain, and stress.  Table Thai incorporates the yoga-like stretching of a standard Thai Massage, combined with passive joint movements and rhythmic muscle compressions along the body's natural energy lines with the client wearing loose, comfortable clothing resulting in the client feeling relaxed, limber and invigorated.

Ashiatsu Massage

A western version of an ancient form of bodywork, in which the therapist massages the client barefooted, using overhead bars for support to vary pressure and weight.

Gua Sha

Releases unhealthy elements from injured areas and stimulates blood flow and healing.

Cupping

An ancient Chinese form of alternative medicine in which a local suction is created on the skin; this mobilizes blood flow to promote healing.

Aromatouch Therapy

Uses essential oils with specific techniques to address the bodies for systemic constants; stress, toxic insult, inflammatory responses, and autonomic imbalance and return the body to a state of balance.
